  • 12 star anise
  • 2 crushed cardamom pods
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 cups whole milk (or plant-based alternative)
  • Sugar or honey to taste
  • Crushed nuts (e.g., almonds) for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Boil water in a saucepan. Add the green tea and boil for about 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in baking soda; water will turn deep red. Boil for another 2 minutes.
  3. Add star anise, cardamom pods, and cinnamon stick; boil for another minute.
  4. Reduce heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes until it reduces by half.
  5. Stir in salt.
  6. Add milk and bring to a boil while stirring; the tea will turn pink.
  7. Strain into cups to remove spices.
  8. Sweeten to taste and garnish with crushed nuts if desired.
